This season of circuit racing series FIA CEZ was commenced on Saturday at Hungaroring. The opening sprint races of the season belonged to Václav Janík, Jirko Malchárek and Zoran Kastratović.

If we have a look into overall results, we will see Václav Janík’s name on the first place. However, it is necessary to mention that Division 4 (touring and GT cars) and Division 5 (sports cars) started the race separately and so Janík began the race in the first wave.

Eventually, the D4+3500 category was won by Jirko Malchárek, who made the best use of his pole position. Malchárek drives BMW M6 GT3 from Trevor Racing team. The same racing special is driven also by Jakub Knoll who represents Šenkýř Motorsport team. Knoll came second in Saturday’s sprint of D4+3500 category.

The 4th place in overall results and 3rd in D4+3500 was taken by a newcomer in FIA-CEZ championship – Marcin Jedlinski while Richar Chlad jun., who returned to the competition and currently drives Audi R8 LMS Ultra, finished 5th.

Sprint race of up to 2000 ccm cars offered nerve-wrecking battle between Zoran Kastratović and Petr Mandelík. Since the Serbian racer had a lead of two seconds when he got the pole position in the the qualifying race, nobody could expect a dramatic course of the race. Surprisingly, it was quite the opposite.

KT Motorsport team racer overtook Kastratović shortly after the start and virtually almost the whole race, he was struggling to defend his lead. In fact, he did not lose his focus even after the roof of this Lotus flew away. Thus, the race was decided in the last round when Kastratović finally got past Mandelík. The third place was taken by Mandelík’s team mate Petr Krejčí.
